Not only beautiful, Amethyst has also enchanted both the esoteric world and the scientific world for generations. The stone is known to have a sobering and cleansing effects while in Korea it has long been used as a healing stone, a tranquilizer and a detoxicant. Scientifically this stone poses a riddle that untill today has not been completely solved. Amethyst has its hardness at 7 on the mohs scale, its moderate refraction and its weight is in common with the other quartzes of the family, but the crystal structure is completely different, and it is most unconventional. The construction is stratified, as a result of which areas and lamellae of varying colour intensity often come about. This explains why there are relatively few large cut amethysts of an evenly distributed dark colour
